About Vedarth

Vedarth is a digital reading and study application for selected Hindu sacred and devotional texts, designed around careful presentation, clear meaning and transparent sources.

Vedarth is the current public name of the application previously presented as Ṛtavāṇī.

Why Vedarth exists

The application was created to provide a dedicated, calm environment for daily textual practice. It distances itself from the distracted, ad-heavy interfaces of modern web reading. Each text is presented through clearly separated layers: source text, familiar recitation, transliteration, literal meaning and contextual explanation. We publish carefully, cite the editions we use, acknowledge textual uncertainty and correct errors transparently.

What Vedarth does not claim

Vedarth respects devotional practice but does not promise cures, miracles or guaranteed spiritual outcomes. Its purpose is to help people read attentively, understand responsibly and build a calm daily relationship with the texts.

How texts are selected

The collection focuses on texts with a history of daily recitation and study. It prioritizes quality of presentation over volume, adding texts only when they can be verified, accurately transliterated, and supported by clear translations.

How verification works

We rely on documented print editions and academic repositories as base texts. Recognizing that oral traditions often differ from print editions, we attempt to document those familiar-recitation differences rather than silently altering the source text. You can view the verification status of every text in our Source Records.

Where Vedarth is going

Vedarth is being built systematically across the following conceptual stages:

  • Trust foundation: Establishing verified texts and accurate meanings.
  • Daily practice: Cultivating environments for focused reading.
  • Guided collections: Deepening engagement through structured Svādhyāya.
  • Living traditions: Connecting texts to specific regional and seasonal contexts without flattening their distinctions.

How to report a textual issue

Textual accuracy is our primary concern. If you spot a typographical error in the Devanagari, a mistranslation, or an undocumented variant, please contact us.
